Troubled Teen 13 years of age going on 14 in Oct. Marijuana involved. I need advice from parents, or teens...?

My nephew had a drug test today and they found Marijuana in his system. Although the doctor said that the marijuana traces could be from either him smoking or being around someone who smokes it. My nephew's parents got divorced when he was a baby, and even though his father lives in the same town, there has been neglect on his father's side. His father has a habit of pushing my nephew away, and making it my nephew's responsibility to call him if he wants to see him. There's more and yahoo answers doesn't give much room to tell all of the story. But, what I do know is that my nephew has been lying about his homework, and is very lazy, and has a very poor attitude about school. It takes an act of God to get him to do stuff, and he's not very enthused with life. He has a ho hum attitude a lot of the time. Has there been any teenager that has gone thru this, or a parent that has gone thru this? What did you do? How did you help your child? Any information will be greatly appreciated. Thx.Troubled Teen 13 years of age going on 14 in Oct. Marijuana involved. I need advice from parents, or teens...?
I really think he is probably going to justify all of this bad behavior because of what has happened between he and his dad. Don't let him! You have to stay on him, follow him, forget the privacy, his trust must be regained. Ask questions, even if he gets mad stay on him. If you find his stash throw it away and leave a card from hallmark in its place.

It sounds like something that will annoy him, but that is because he is hiding something. Just hang in there and pray. GLTroubled Teen 13 years of age going on 14 in Oct. Marijuana involved. I need advice from parents, or teens...?
you let the parents handle the discipline part of it. what he needs is someone to talk to and someone who will accept him the way he is. i am not saying you should let him smoke pot but that you should be his friend and help him find out who he is. spend some time taking him places, teach him how to do things, encourage him to do the best that he can. you can't change his fathers attitude but you can show him that he has people that care.
His parents may need to enlist the help of a professional counselor who can uncover what problems your nephew is going through and can advise the parents on how to better handle him. Good luck.
I don't know. I'm 15 and my best friend told me she's been drunk before, did pot, and heroin before. She says she likes to do pot. I don't get her.
