If you are a parent of teens can you give me some advice?

My middle son, 17, has always been a good kid up until recently.

He is being very disrespectful to me. Refuses to listen to what I say. Very lazy.

To get to the point, he got in my face and told me some hurtful things which I know of course he doesn't mean.

So I asked him if he wanted to be treated like an adult or a child? He then responded to me that he wants to be treated like an adult. So I took out all the lightbulbs in his room, told him he had to walk to work, took everything I bought him and told him he had to now acquire them back by paying me what I paid for them (I am not being serious, just something for him to think about), and now had to pay for his share of the electric bill for his usage.

Of course this plan isn't going to last forever because he is going to realize my point, but regardless, I kinda feel bad not taking him to work but I can't be disrespected when I go out of my way to do everything for him and he doesn't appreciate it.

Am I wrong? If you are a parent of teens can you give me some advice?
Awesomely done, mom! Sounds like something I would do - except I would keep it going - make up a menu for meals with prices, etc. and just not let up for a while.

I have a 17 1/2 year old son..... had to do the tough love thing with him when he was eight - not since then.

Keep strong! If you are a parent of teens can you give me some advice?
