Is there any advice available on a teen age boy living with father in new country with no motherly figure.?

I am having a bit of difficulty as we are very close and i am not short of cash.So i feel he has for varios reasons a distinct lack of respect. His confidence level i would think is good but with me i need to bring him down just a bit.Any help from a single parent of exsperience?.Is there any advice available on a teen age boy living with father in new country with no motherly figure.?
If you are in the UK there are lots of parenting networks like Gingerbread and Surestart that can support you.

I suggest taking up a hobby together as bonding experience. Let them chose what it would be. It should be something neither of you have any experience of, so you both start off on an even footing. By letting them choose it will show that you value their opinion and should gain you respect. Make sure that the hobby isnt driven by money tho.

Good luck!Is there any advice available on a teen age boy living with father in new country with no motherly figure.?
Ask the father to get married
If you hold the purse strings then you make the rules. When he gets disrespectful stop the conversation. When he can speak in a civil manner like a young adult then you will be happy to converse with him. If he has a vehicle that you pay for that is another area to learn it is a privilege to have a car not a right. Depending on his age, is he old enough to hold a job. This definitely teaches young people responsibility and that things in life need to be earned.
