First, google it and find out its reputation that way. There are indeed a number of pageants that are not reputable.
Now, here's the full deal:
You're going to have to spring some pretty hefty money for proper outfits and hairstyling.
You should take some modeling classes to learn how to walk on a runway.
You'll need a solid talent for that part of the competition. Singing and dancing are the more common ones, but I've seen one Miss America contestant who did ventriloquism. Whatever you can do to entertain, do it excellently.
There's also an interview section of the pageant--not only the questions you get onstage, but also a more intensive interview with the judges beforehand. Go online to find out some common questions that they'll ask, and seek coaching regarding how to answer them and how to comport yourself.
And train yourself to smile non-stop. Contestants usually find a moisturizing product (in the cheapest cases, vaseline) to smear on their front teeth and gums to prevent them from drying out.
Pageants are pretty much a full-time job if you're going to compete on a state or national level. Unless you are deeply motivated and ready to restrict your diet, exercise, practice, and live and breathe pageants, best that you just enter a couple of local festival queen competitions and enjoy your normal life.I need advice for the National American Miss Texas Junior Teen competition 2008?
