How do i get it to stop? i need adult and teen advice.?

my boyfriend and his dad fight all the time over the stupidest things. well part of it is because his dad is a compulsive drinker and drinks from the time he gets up in the morning until he passes out at night. my boyfriend has tried talking to his dad and explaining to him that his drinking is causing all the fights but his dad won't listen. I get caught in the middle because i am there when the fights break out. im not talking about just little yelling and acting like little kid fights either. im talking about physically pushing and choking. its almost always his dad pushing and choking him. can someone give me a little bit of advice on how to handle the situation when one arises in front of me. also how can we explain to his dad that his drinking is ruining his life and everyone elses around him. i know its his life but i really want to help him and so does my boyfriend but we don't know how to get him to listen to us. please give good advice. thanksHow do i get it to stop? i need adult and teen advice.?
WOW this is not an easy question to answer! I would start by telling you to keep a distance and try not to put yourself in a dangerous situation. Have you tried to talk to your parents to see if they can help because the only people that can help are people near by. Being open about this is the best way to get attention on the topic. If the cops get involved the father will end up going to jail. The domestic laws here say they have to arrest someone no madder what. Then what about his mom is she around? If not does he have a safe place to go when this all starts? Being safe is most important second is being tact full when trying to talk to his dad about this. I've personally been in this situation before and you do need to call the police, they CAN help you, I know its scary it was for me and I didn't know what to do but they can help, I know you don't want them to be mad at you but you have to do it. Best of luck!! Katie
